Contractor Insurance Coverage
Every coverage line a New York contractor needs — GL, Workers' Comp, Auto, Umbrella, Builder's Risk, and Equipment — structured with the endorsements GCs and owners require.
General Liability (CGL)
If you're a contractor in New York, GL is your baseline — no GC will let you on a jobsite without it. But in New York's litigation environment, particularly under Labor Law §§ 240 and 241, a basic GL policy isn't enough. You need the right limits, the right endorsements, and a carrier that won't fold when a Scaffold Law claim hits.
Bedrock places contractor GL through A-rated carriers with occurrence-form coverage as the default. We build your policy with the endorsements that GCs and property owners require from day one.
Workers' Compensation & Employers' Liability
If you have employees in New York — even one — you need Workers' Comp. No exceptions. If you get caught without it, you're looking at criminal penalties under WCL § 52, stop-work orders, and personal liability for corporate officers. Beyond compliance, your WC premium is directly tied to your Experience Modification Rate (EMR), and a bad EMR can price you out of jobs.
We place Workers' Comp through NYSIF and private carriers for every construction class code — from low-hazard painting crews to high-risk structural steel erectors. More importantly, we actively manage your EMR by monitoring claim reserves, coordinating with adjusters, and pushing for early closures.
Commercial Auto for Contractors
If your crew drives work trucks, vans, or tows equipment trailers, you need Commercial Auto. New York's mandatory minimums ($25K/$50K BI, $10K PD) are far too low for any contractor — a single accident can exceed those limits easily. We structure auto programs with limits that match your contract requirements and actual exposure.
Additional Coverage Lines
Beyond your core GL, WC, and Auto, these coverage lines round out a complete contractor insurance program.
Umbrella / Excess Liability
Most GC contracts require $5M–$10M+ in total limits. Umbrella/excess sits over your GL, Auto, and Employers' Liability to get you there. We place layers from $1M to $25M through admitted and E&S markets.
Builder's Risk
Course-of-construction coverage for new builds, gut renovations, and tenant fit-outs. Protects against fire, wind, theft, and vandalism during construction. Soft cost, delayed opening, and scaffolding coverage available.
Tools & Equipment (Inland Marine)
Covers your tools, scaffolding, heavy equipment, and rented machinery on any jobsite or in transit. Replacement cost basis. Includes coverage for equipment you don't own but are responsible for under rental agreements.
